Helpful Tips:

  • Read our blog.  It has lots of good information that is always being added to.
  • Firewood is almost always dumped on your property by a truck.  It’s not stacked.
  • Stacking is usually extra charge – make sure you ask the provider about this.
  • Put down a tarp before delivery to protect the wood from getting dirty.
  • If you buy multiple cords, you can usually get a discount.  Ask the provider.
  • If you are very price sensitive, buy green wood this year and burn it when its seasoned next year.  Keep iterating this way.  You’ll save a ton of money buy buying greenwood and letting it season for a year.
  • If you like a local provider, give them a review.  These local businesses survive on your business.
  • If you didn’t like a provider, negotiate a common ground with them, and review them appropriately.  It will help other people.
  • Look for more established providers that sell firewood for a business.  They usually have more experience.
  • Always do your research on a provider.  Make sure they are reviewed well.
  • Almost all firewood providers prefer cash.  It’s more powerful and less headache for them.
  • Always ask for moisture content.  Make sure the wood is well seasoned.  12+ months.
  • Ask the business to make sure they are insured.

Environmental Considerations:

  • Buy Locally Part I – make sure wood was harvested and transported locally.  You’ll help local businesses and families that rely on your business.  You’ll also save money- Why pay $7 for a bundle of 6 pieces of wood at Stop&Shop?
  • Buy Locally Part II- All kinds of pests and pathogens cross geo lines; killing precious trees and damaging the environment.
  • Did we say buy local? (wherever you are) win, win, win.

Some Tips To Watch For Scams:

  • Never wire funds through any wire services like western union or money gram.
  • Never give out financial information like bank account numbers, social security numbers, etc.
  • Always deal with people LOCALLY that you can meet in person – just like buying from a store.
  • Always pay on delivery, not ahead of time.  Most Firewood providers don’t take money ahead of delivery.
